Dwain Handley for Texas House District 19

Howdy. I am Dwain Handley of Cottonwood Shores in Burnet County, Texas, and I’m running in the March 5th Democratic Primary to represent you in Blanco, Burnet, Gillespie, Kendall, and western Travis Counties. I am motivated to run for this office — and to serve you — by a vision from my younger years when our elected officials went to work mainly for us and our families rather than monied special interests.

I grew up in a Texas that excelled at things like education and the arts. A Texas where our politics were balanced and not extreme; one that had both a Republican and a Democratic U.S. senator. A Texas that voted to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment, and that cast its electoral votes for John Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson, Hubert Humphrey and Jimmy Carter, rejecting racists like David Duke and George Wallace. A Texas where I received a publicly subsidized university education. A Texas where one offhand, misogynistic comment lost the governor’s race for the Republican candidate who uttered it, ushering in Gov. Ann Richards instead. I can envision a future Texas where that kind of balance is restored for the betterment of us all.

Building a future Texas like that will require a significant change in our politics, but I believe it is possible. And I’m reaching out to folks like you who would like to join me on that journey.
